Simmer Pot Gift Ideas: DIY Christmas Gift Jars

Simmer pot jars are the easiest homemade Christmas gift: they smell like the holidays, look beautiful on the counter and cost very little to make. Layer only dry, shelf-stable ingredients in a clean glass jar: dried orange slices, cinnamon sticks, star anise, whole cloves, a few bay leaves and dried cranberries (fresh fruit and herbs spoil in a jar). Close the lid, tie on a kraft tag with jute twine and write the directions: add the mix to 3 to 4 cups of water in a small saucepan, bring it to a gentle simmer on low, and top up the water as it reduces. Never leave a simmer pot unattended. Everything you need to make them, from the jars to the little enamel pot, is below.
